For students with previous Java programming experience, the Advanced Java Application Developer certificate program provides students with new skillsets and knowledge that elevates their utility as a developer and increases their attractiveness to employers. Students are expected to have prior knowledge similar to what is covered in the Java Developer program, before enrolling in this Advanced Java Application Programmer certificate program.

Many Java applications today are web-based, and consequently being able to read markup language, understanding the fundamental structure of webpages, and proficiency in navigating the elements of a webpage file are all important abilities to have as a Java developer. The first course in this program (Website Development with HTML5, CSS and Bootstrap) educates students on all of those skills. HTML, the fundamental markup language of webpages, is covered first. The class then provides an introduction to CSS for design consistency in webpages, and also exposes students to the Bootstrap web development framework. Students who already have previous HTML knowledge may opt to skip this first course if they have sufficient prior experience.

The second course in the Advanced Java track provides an Introduction to Spring 5, Spring Boot and Spring REST. The Spring web framework provides powerful capabilities to Java web applications, and students are trained on a variety of these framework abilities. The Spring Core module is covered first, and then Spring Boot is covered to simplify application configuration and dependency management. Lastly, students will be introduced to Spring REST, and will be able to utilize RESTful web services for Java web applications.

The third and final course provides a thorough introduction to Test Driven Development (TDD), and Refactoring Legacy Code Using Java. Test Driven Development is a popular software development methodology amongst many larger organizations, where application development is primarily driven by test cases and the testing of new and revised code to make sure that the test scenarios are passed. Students will also develop the skill of code refactoring during class, which is when existing code is rewritten to be more efficient or understandable.

Upon completion of the Advanced Java Application Developer certificate program, students will have developed a flexible and sophisticated skillset regarding the Java language and the Eclipse IDE. Equipped with a robust knowledge base and plenty of hands-on development experience, students will be able to pursue an entry-level Java programmer position in the workforce with confidence. An existing Java programmer would also be able to benefit from this certificate program's completion since they would be able to handle expanded responsibilities for working with additional Java frameworks in their role, and will have increased cognizance about best practices for code testing. The Advanced Java certificate program will also provide students with more advanced skills and techniques related to programming (such as Test Driven Development), allowing students to stand out in the workplace as a knowledgeable Java developer once they have completed the program.
